The Factory (Downtown Granville)

$5.95 food menu — their instant selling point. For cheap food fare in the nightlife district of Downtown Vancouver, The Factory provides a decent range of pub food for only $5.95 per item. The portions are quite fair for the price as well.

How did we end up at The Factory? I stumbled upon their restaurant when I was looking for an inexpensive restaurant in Downtown. We were a large party and we didn’t want to spend much money. At the last minute, we were able to snag a reservation (even though they don’t usually take them). The manager/owner was very gracious over the phone and was able to grant us a table in advance. Aside from the inexpensive food menu, they offer daily specials of beer at a very affordable price.

Bear with all the food we ordered. Unfortunately I’ll only be able to review two items!

Honey Garlic Baked (& Fried) Chicken Wings

The chicken wings were quite lean, so they weren’t very juicy. If it wasn’t for the wetness of the honey, it would be pretty dry. I wasn’t really expecting much out of the chicken wings. Chicken wings are pretty standard anywhere. Since they were the same price as other items, I would probably suggest to order something else if you want more bang for your buck.

Poutine

Perogies

I love my perogies. Probably next on my comfort food list next to macaroni and cheese, The Factory does a pretty good job for $5.95. Their perogies are lightly pan fried and topped with crumbled bacon. Absolutely loved the copious amounts of bacon that they used but it wasn’t as crunchy as I would have liked. These would have been probably perfect if they could make the bacon pieces super crunchy. It comes with 8 pieces so it’s pretty filling!

Pulled Pork Sliders

Blackened Whitefish Sandwich

Shepherd’s Pie

Pros:

- affordable menu

- comfort food

- short walk from the Canada Line

- friendly staff

- bar + tv

- cheap drink specials

Cons:

- dim light setting

- limited seating

- downtown parking

Will we return?

Affirmative. When you’re looking at a $5.95 menu, don’t expect too much. For the price, it’s pretty decent considering its location. Whenever we’re looking for affordable, decent food in the core of downtown before a night out, we’ll definitely come here to fill our tummies!
