We visited Cardero’s (located by Coal Harbour for lunch during Dineout Vancouver(Jan 20-Feb 5). What’s great about Cardero’s is that they offered three-course meal for dinner and lunch; lunch being $10 cheaper. Nonetheless, they offer some of these menu items on the regular menu: Manhattan Clam Chowder, Sesame Crusted Albacore Tuna, Forno Chicken Breast, Tiramisu, and Cheesecake. We went with a fairly larger party than usual, so we can only properly review the ones that we consumed ourselves.

Manhattan Clam Chowder
G and I ordered this as our appetizer. Our first impressions were that it was a conglomerate of items in the soup. It ranged from potatoes, celery, tomato, clams, etc. We thought it was just way too much as it took away from the chowder itself. It seemed much more like a vegetable soup than a clam chowder; however, if you do enjoy hearty soup, this might be something you would enjoy.
3/5
Sesame Crusted Albacore Tuna
Braised Beef Short Ribs
It’s a shame they don’t offer this item on the regular menu! At first, we were surprised about the reasonable portion they offered. The beef very juicy and tender; the texture reminded us of the very tender beef brisket that Asian establishments offer. The sauce was a very earthy and not too salty nor sweet. G commented that there wasn’t enough sauce but that could be just her. In my opinion, it was enough if you distributed it evenly. The grilled vegetables on the side were a good complement to the dish since they were fresh and sweet. Judging from this dish, the chops and steak menu items on their regular menu should be more than fairly decent with its pleasant accompaniment of sides and sauces. The mashed potatoes were also very delicious, especially because it was doused in the sauce.
4.5/5
Forno Roasted Free Range Chicken Breast
Grilled Steelhead Salmon
Tiramisu
At first bite, the tiramisu was not too sweet nor bland. The texture was a lot more moist than other places where I have tried their tiramisu. The cocoa powder that was dusted on top wasn’t too overwhelming either. It’s a shame that it wasn’t a bigger cut! We were already getting more than enough than what we paid for… but hey, it was good!
4/5
New York Cheesecake
Pros:
- - friendly service
- - location by the water
- - valet parking
Cons:
- - meter parking
- - hard to get to by transit
- - long walk from Waterfront Station
Will we return?
If we’re in the area, we will definitely return. Since it is situated at Coal Harbour, it’s obviously on the pricier side. This is definitely somewhere I would go to on a nice sunny day in Vancouver when i want to treat myself!
